River of Blue Bluegrass Version
I was raised in a small town A quiet place where God’s gifts reigned down And right in the middle a river ran through It was my river, my river of blue Blue, blue, river of blue
When I was twelve Dad bought me a boat For five dollars but we made it float I’d drift on down past Saw Mill Bay And catch some fish along the way In my river of blue Blue, blue, river of blue
Now life was a dream when I was a boy Life on the river so much joy And in the wind God’s love would say On this river I play On this river I play
Four young children, were taken down To the bottom near our town Dark murky waters that ran blue But just like us they were passing through In that river of blue Blue, blue, river of blue
Now Mom would say it’s not as safe as it seems I wish you would fish in a smaller stream But the river I knew held the secrets of life As I fished for the bass and fished for the pike In my river of blue Blue, blue, river of blue Jim Hagan 1/1/08 |
